Welcome to my new home!

I’m so excited to unveil my new studio – a light, bright and airy space for dreaming and designing, creating and developing and meeting my clients for private consultations.

After years working from my own home I decided it was time to make the move to separate – and bigger - premises which would give me more space in which to work and to meet my clients.

Two of the studio’s four walls are made up almost entirely of windows – which bathe my space in lots of natural light on even the dullest of days and make me feel invigorated, inspired and ready to face the world. The studio has been painted and furnished with lots of bright whites and greys (with very occasional splashes of colour) to make me feel happy, calm and relaxed – even when my order book is full to bursting!

A New Home!

I have the luxury of separate areas for admin and computer work, sewing and wiring, and packing and dispatching – as well as a dedicated showroom and consultation area.

Of course there’s also a little kitchenette – a hand-painted vintage cabinet stocked with lots of tea, coffee…and champagne for those impromptu celebratory moments!

Just like my accessory designs the studio is a real mix of modern and vintage style. Painted vintage cabinets, chairs and drawers nestle in amongst modern Ikea tables, shelves and containers to create a space that inspires me without overwhelming my creative process with clutter.

The studio is in an old Art Deco building in Sheffield city centre which was created for WH Smith in the 1920s. The building, called Exchange Place Studios, is close to the city’s canal-side Victoria Quays and was last used as a centre for the city’s public transport offices. After travel bosses moved their operation to a new home Yorkshire Artspace took over the empty building and set about transforming it into studio accommodation for artists and designers.

I cannot tell you how much more productive, organised and inspired I have felt since moving into my new space – both in terms of having my own physical studio space and being in the company of such a creative community of jewellers, artists, sculptors, furniture designers and textile practitioners.

I have already had the pleasure of welcoming lots of brides into my studio for consultations – which means they get to see where and how I create the designs they will wear on their wedding day as well as having a dedicated showroom space in which to view and try on my accessories in privacy and comfort.

If you would like to visit me in my studio for an accessory consultation - by appointment only - please email debbie@dcbouquets.co.uk. If you are based in the south I can also offer consultations in central London, again please email to request an appointment.

Today I am so happy to tell you all about the newest addition to my list of gorgeous boutique stockists - the wonderful Halfpenny London.

Halfpenny London is the flagship Bloomsbury boutique which is home to the  designs of the same name created by celebrity stylist and designer Kate Halfpenny.

A New Stockist For Debbie Carlisle - Celebrity Stylist and Designer Halfpenny London.

Kate has styled and designed for celebrities including Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, Kate Moss, Emilia Fox and Erin O’Connor. In 2005 she launched her bridal and couture collection Halfpenny London.

Most recently Kate designed a beautiful embellished gown for Lucie Cave, Editor in Chief of Heat magazine, who married Ben Lunt earlier this month.

Lucie (pictured below left) chose one of my wedding headband designs, Odette, from Halfpenny London to wear for her evening reception after she had removed the romantic veil she wore for the daytime ceremony.

Debbie’s wedding hair accessories have graced many fabulous wedding fairs and shows over the years, and one of the most prestigious of those events has to be Brides The Show which took place over the weekend.

This event is THE place to go to see top-name designers from every section of the wedding industry. Whether you’re looking for a super-special gown or accessory, searching for ideas to help you plan the look of your day, or want advice from experts in their bridal field, Brides The Show is the perfect place to get serious inspiration for your special day.

One of my stockists, Halfpenny London, took a stand at the London event and took along a selection of my headpieces to showcase to visiting brides, alongside their absolutely stunning gowns, including some new designs which I had never seen before.

These were genuinely some of the most beautiful wedding gowns I have ever seen, with some really spectacular fabrics, shapes and textures and I can’t wait to see the first pictures of their brides wearing them - hopefully with some of my designs!

As a little taster, below are a few of my bridal hair accessories teamed with gowns designed by Kate Halfpenny, the super-talented celebrity stylist and designer behind the Halfpenny London brand and London boutique.

Debbie’s Wedding Hair Accessories Shine At Brides The Show

One of the many rewarding elements of designing and making wedding hair accessories s being asked by other designers if they can use your bridal headpieces to accessorise their gowns during photo shoots.

Earlier this year I was contacted by the people behind the True Bride bridal and bridesmaid labels to ask if they could use some of my wedding hair accessories for their 2015 collection campaigns.

I was so happy to see they that they used my Darcey double strand crystal forehead band, my Hattie statement crystal wedding headband and my Ava feather hair clip in nude and gold to accessorise their gowns - and I think they’re a match made in true bridal heaven!

A wedding styling event with a difference is being hosted by one of my beautiful bridal boutique stockists – and I’m delighted to announce that I will be there!

Cicily Bridal are holding their style event over three days in their Ashby-de-la-Zouch boutique - giving brides direct access to the designers behind three gorgeous wedding dress labels as well as showcasing an array of accessory designs and other wedding day style inspiration all under one beautiful roof.

The event is aimed at fashion-forward style-loving brides who like the idea of mixing contemporary style with classic bridal themes and fabrics and are looking for a bridal gown and accessories which are a little different to the wedding norm.

Debbie Teams Up With Top Designers For Unique Wedding Styling Event

I’ll be showcasing a large selection of my wedding hair accessories throughout the entire event which runs from Friday November 21 to Sunday November 23 – and will also be on hand on Saturday November 22 to offer one-to-one accessory styling advice.

A different bridal designer will be in store for each day of the event, starting with Eliza Jane Howell on Friday from 1pm to 7pm, who will be bringing her amazingly elegant, opulent beaded designs and offering styling advice.

When people see my brooch bouquets for the first time they’re always intrigued about the process involved in making them.

Even when I explain that every piece of jewellery, button or bead is hand-wired into place to create a unique bouquet it can still be hard to visualise and to be honest I can find it hard to explain how it all comes together.

When I was approached by a documentary photographer who wanted to chart the making of one of my bouquets from start to finish I thought this could be a lovely way to give people a behind-the-scenes glimpse of  the way I work.

Behind The Scenes: New Collection Shoot

While the freezing temperatures may not have been ideal, our gorgeous model Ksenija was a real superstar - even when she was forced to shrug off her jeans, dressing gown, work boots, shawl and hot water bottle in less-than-perfect conditions to ensure we got the look we wanted!

On a particularly cold and wet day earlier this year I had the pleasure of working with some very talented people on a photo shoot to showcase my brand new 2015 wedding hair accessories collection.

Sylvie hair vine in gold - from the Enchanted collection.

The collection contains pieces with two very distinct styles to choose from – so whether you’re a vintage loving bride looking for a super-sparkly wedding accessory, or a bohemian bride looking for something with more of a woodland or floral feel, there should be something for you all!

‘Limelight’ is all about glitz and glamour and will appeal to brides looking for vintage-inspired sparkle from their wedding accessories while ‘Enchanted’ is inspired by the natural world and has a slightly more subtle shimmer and shine making it perfect for brides looking for a more delicate bridal accessory.

Debbie Carlisle 2015 Collection Revealed

Today is a very special day for me – I get to finally share my new 2015 collection of bridal accessories with you!

Arabella crystal headband and cuff from the Limelight collection.

The entire Enchanted collection is available in both silver and a gorgeous warm antique gold tone – giving you plenty of choice when it comes to choosing your wedding day look. Most of the Enchanted designs are wired together with gold or silver plated wire and use intricately carved mother of pearl flowers which gives the pieces a more relaxed and bohemian feel. The silver versions use clear faceted Czech crystals mixed with tiny pale ivory freshwater pearls, while the gold versions use beautiful antique gold faceted Czech crystals which are partly glazed to create a delicate and warm golden shimmer.

I met Sarah at an accessories event at my new stockist, The White Closet, where she fell in love with one of my headpieces. We played about with hairstyles, tried the piece on with veils, and generally just had a lot of fun! It was a real surprise to discover that Sarah was a ‘real bride’ blogger on top UK bridal blog Boho Weddings when just a few days later she wrote about the event.

She said: “I spotted a beautiful accessory and, unlike me, waited 10 minutes to speak to the designer, Debbie Carlisle. She was lovely, so helpful; we were styling my hair, trying on veils – it was brilliant!

“And I realised I’d been so uptight about getting everything ticked off the list that I’d forgotten to enjoy the fun stuff involved in wedding planning...I’ve decided to change my attitude. No more ‘ticking things off the list’.

“This wedding has given me an excuse to be creative again, to have fun, to try lots of new things I’d never think of doing, and so instead of focusing on a never ending to do list, I’ve got to remember how much I’ll miss having so many lovely decisions (& decorations) to make once we hit June!”

Taking The Stress Out Of Wedding Planning

If you’re planning your wedding and letting the stress get to you – the story of bride-to-be Sarah may be just what you need to hear!

I absolutely adore Kate Beaumont’s elegant vintage-inspired wedding dress designs – so when she asked me to provide the sparkle for one of her wedding gowns she didn’t have to ask me twice!

I first met Kate when she was planning her own wedding and she fell in love with one of my bridal hair combs. The Olivia headpiece was the perfect match for the slinky 1930s style gown she was making herself for her wedding.

Debbie Collaborates With Bridal Gown Designer To Create Elegant Vintage Gold Wedding Dress

As a bridal accessories designer I’m used to styling my pieces to complement a bride’s gown – but it’s something else entirely when a wedding dress designer asks me to collaborate on the creation of the dress itself!

Kate in the dress she made herself and my Olivia comb and veil.

Kate lives in the same part of Sheffield as me and we became firm friends, bonding over cups of tea, glasses of wine and our shared love of bridal design.

When Kate decided to set up her own business making wedding dresses for other brides I was honoured to be asked to help accessorise them in her photo shoots.

I have also had the pleasure of providing accessories for a number of Kate’s brides who had seen her own Debbie Carlisle headpiece on display in her studio.

One of these brides was the gorgeous Jen, who commissioned Kate to make her wedding gown. The pair of them played with the silver Olivia comb that Kate wore for her wedding and decided this style would make amazing cap sleeves for her dress – and that was when I got involved!

I had the very great pleasure of visiting the boutique in person and can confirm that brides who visit this haven of calm and beauty are in for a real treat!

Row upon row of stunning bridal gowns using the most beautiful fabrics are just waiting to find the perfect bride – and the very knowledgeable team of stylists will carefully guide you through the process of finding a perfect gown to work with your wedding and personal style.
